In Memory of Mr. Lawrence H. Schmieding |
|
To the many people of Loxley, the obituary below talks about a man who enriched the lives of every person in Loxley. Many people don't know who he is and what he did. Mr. Schmieding is the sole reason why Loxley has a civic center. His foundation, The Schmieding Foundation, donated all of the money that was used to construct the Loxley Civic Center in 1996. For many years, Mr Schmieding had a seasonal produce business in Loxley. He wanted to give something to Loxley that would benefit young and old alike. The answer was a wonderful facility that houses our senior citizens activities, our summer youth activities, community activities, and events. Without Mr. Schmieding's generosity, Loxley would not have benefited from such a building. The Loxley Civic Center, the Loxley ballparks, municipal park, walking trail, and children's playground all make up a shining diamond that so many people from all over take note. Thank you, Mr. Schmieding, for your kindness and your contributions to your second home, we will remember you always.
(The above submitted by Joey Knight, Director of the Loxley Civic Center. The obituary below is courtesy of Ms. Gilda Underwood, one of Mr. Schmieding's long time employees.)
