LOXLEY, Alabama — Loxley officials are hoping a state grant will provide funds for much-needed drainage and sewer improvements in one of the town’s older areas.
The Loxley Town Council unanimously approved a resolution at its meeting Monday night authorizing the submission of a $350,000 Community Development Block Grant through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
According to the grant application, filed by the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission on behalf of the town, “Loxley has identified community development needs and determined that there is a critical need to provide sewer and drainage rehabilitation in an older area of the town where high concentrations of low to moderate income persons reside.”

LOXLEY, Alabama — The Town of Loxley is looking to save its employees money on medical expenses.
At its meeting Monday night, the Loxley Town Council voted to change from Blue Cross/Blue Shield’s Blue Secure Silver plan to Blue Access Gold.
While that means an increase in the premiums for both the town and its employees, it will greatly reduce the out-of-pocket costs for medical procedures, officials said.
“I didn’t realize our deductibles were so high,” said Loxley Mayor Billy Middleton. “We have a lot of employees in need of medical procedures that simply can’t afford the high deductibles.”
